Comprehensive care of the oncology patient requires extensive knowledge beyond CDT. In order to effectively treat an oncology patient with or without lymphedema, we must have a clear understanding of the patients’ cancer experience (type of cancer, stage, grade, side effects of specific surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, biotherapy, targeted therapy and hormonal therapies) as well as effectively perform differential diagnostics and identify oncologic emergencies. EDUCATIONAL FORMAT
The course is offered as an instructor led course with both lecture and lab components. Course materials are provided in the form of live teletraining / remote learning with an instructor that is a subject matter expert within the field covered. The in-person lecture and lab format allows for an interactive learning environment which fosters the development of appropriate reasoning and problem solving skills combined with refinement of manual skills specific to the oncology population. Participants are given a final written exam at the end of the course as well as a lab competency exam to assess both manual and clinical reasoning skills.
COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS
Successful completion of the course, as demonstrated by >70% on the written exam and a passing score on the lab competency will result in provision of specialist certification and credit for continuing education hours. Participants not receiving >70% the written exam and failing the lab competency will not receive specialist certification; however will receive course credit for continuing education hours.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR/AUTHOR
Lisa Marshall, OTR/L, CLT, CLWT, is the Owner and Director of Rehabilitation Services of Specialty Rehabilitation Inc., Newark, DE. She has 27 years of clinical experience, including inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient therapy, acute care, home health and skilled nursing care. She has specialized in Oncology Rehabilitation for the last 20 years and has been lymphedema trained for 18 years. In 2002, she founded Specialty Rehabilitation, Inc., an outpatient therapy clinic focusing on specialized care in: oncology rehabilitation, pelvic floor dysfunction, and lymphedema management. She started her private practice based on specific needs in her community in Newark, Delaware. There were minimal services at that time in oncology, women’s health, and lymphedema therapy. Currently, as owner and director of rehabilitation services, she provides oncology and lymphedema rehabilitation programs with physical and occupational therapy services at the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center and Research Institute at Christiana Care Health Services. She also acts as a consultant for Memorial Sloan Kettering Outpatient Oncology Rehabilitation Services, and CanSurround. Lisa has provided invited lectures and course instruction for the International Lymphedema and Wound Training Institute (ILWTI), AOTA, DOTA, Oncology Nursing Society and various universities and colleges. Her mission is to provide high quality specialized care for people with cancer, pelvic floor dysfunction, and/or lymphedema, pre-habilitation through palliation.
