COURSE DESCRIPTION

PRE-REQUISITES: Current PT, PTA, OT, OTA, SLP, MD, DO, DPM, PA, NP, RN license.

95 Total Hours

PART I: MODERN MLD

~20hrs Online Pre-course Work + 30 hours Onsite Training.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) therapy is rapidly evolving. This course provides extensive training for licensed clinicians who wish to update their skills and stay current with new hand techniques and technologies that are shaping lymphedema treatment today.

Our Modern MLD Certification was developed by licensed PTs and OTs who are LANA Certified Lymphedema Therapists with a broad background in traditional approaches. ILWTI has integrated evidence-based research and information gained from ICG fluoroscopy of live lymphatics, to create the new Lymphatic & Integumentary Rehabilitation (LIR™) approach.

PART II: CERTIFIED COMPRESSION SPECIALIST - CCS

6hrs Online Pre-Course Work + 40 hours Onsite Training.

This course includes many hands-on workshops and useful clinical resources, such as S.T.R.I.D.E.™ Professional Guide to Compression Garment Selection authored by ILWTI experts Robyn Bjork and Suzie Ehmann and published as a Supplement to Journal of Wound Care

Learn how to perform a bedside ABI. Master customized, full-limb, multi-layered bandaging systems that will not slip down, will aggressively soften fibrotic tissue, and stay in place for several days at a time. Dive into the engineering and construction of various types of medical compression garments to help you understand why one garment may fail and the other succeed in managing edema, even when they have the same dosage. Expand your decongestive compression options with a variety of garments that can be used for edema reduction. Learn how to effectively and efficiently compress even the most advanced, Stage 3 lymphedema, with massive lobules.

Everything you need is provided for hands-on training, as well as ample bandaging supplies for you to take back home.  After completing this course, you can confidently apply different types of bandaging systems, and select the best compression garments for your patient to boost compliance and compression success.

MODERN MLD™ - WHATS NEW?

Manual Lymphatic Drainage training has dramatically changed over the past few years. Why? Because lymphatic medicine and research has changed! What we thought to be true in the past is different than what we know now. New ICG Fluoroscopy imaging of live lymphatics and published research in the past few years has begged significant changes in lymphedema educational curriculum:

*Starling's Law Debunked!

*Endothelial Glycocalyx Layer structure and function explained

*New state of the evidence for Modern MLD (finally! the scientific proof we need)

*Why all edema is lymphedema, and why it matters

*How to improve functional outcomes for TKA and other orthopedic applications

*Customize MLD for each individual patient!

*Your best route may drain proximal to distal on the extremity.  Find out how and why.

*Use new research on lymphosomal mapping, and manual assessments, as your guide to customization

*Training in the new era of Lymphatic & Integumentary Rehabilitation - why it all comes back to rehab and active movement!

This evidence based, Modern MLD Certification course will challenge your mindset and open new doors for more effective results using all your treatment techniques.

Pre-requisites

PT, PTA, OT, COTA, MD, DO, DPM, PA, NP, or RN license

Who Should Attend

Best suited for licensed Physical & Occupational Therapists and Assistants who manage patients with edema/lymphedema and integumentary impairments.

COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS

Successful completion of all on-line pre-coursework and a cumulative score of 70% or higher on all quizzes, attendance of entire live course, participation in all hands-on labs and workshops, and a passing grade on practicums are required for CCS Certification. Students must also pass a one-on-one bandaging practicum with the instructor (live or via teletraining) for the arm and leg bandaging to pass and achieve certification.

*Should you have special needs requests to successfully complete your training, please contact us.

EDUCATION FORMAT

There is approximately 26hrs of on-line pre-course work that is completed at your own pace. A four week lead time prior to Onsite class is recommended, although this varies depending on your prior education and experience in the content areas. On-Site training includes review lectures, labs, hands-on workshops, and practicums. Digital copies of clinical tools, and workbooks are included. Our instructor to student ratio is typically 1:10 during labs to ensure you receive individualized, hands-on training.
